  • Hello All,

would like to know if it's possible to install SQL Server Failover cluster instance with shared storage along with standalone installation with Always on ( always on uses WSFC underneath).

any link will be great. I want to add a FCI on one of the replica of always on. once I read some an article about it but cant seems to find it.

    Any help is appreciated.

Yes you can install an FCI on a node that has a standalone instance of SQL server participating as a replica in an AlwaysOn group. No special actions required, just present the shared storage to any nodes in the cluster where the new instance will be installed. Run the new FCI install, then run add node on any nodes that have the shared storage and will join the FCI.

Bear in mind, you will jot be able to use this FCI in any AlwaysOn group where a local instance is already a member
