OBDC cant connect

  • Hi Team,

I have one server that cannot connect to a remote SQL server. Any other server or machine on my network can connect with the OBDC settings I am using to this remote server.

The Server is 2008 R2 SP1. It is a Scribe Insight server but all I am using is an OBDC connection to get to the remote server. I have tried using IP and named pipes and it just hangs and says server does not exist or access denied.

I did shut off the firewall on the OBDC server.

Any PC or server on my network would have the same IP as this server when it tries to connect to the remote server as well.

I am banging my head on this one.

  • Hi

You have to check a few of issues:

    Network:

    - try to ping SQL server

    - check nslookup (DNS name resolving)

    Firewall:

    - anywhere between client and server could block SQL connection request

    Odbc diver:

    Renistall/upgrade MDAC.

  • It was indeed my SonicWall. Not sure what the rule was for but I disabled it for now. Thanks for the reply on this one.
