Backups to Synology NAS

  • I have a server running BizTalk with SQL Server 2008/R2 that I am trying to back up to a Synology NAS. The problem is that SQL is running under the local service account, not a network account, and so it's getting access denied to the NAS shared folder.

The thing is, it was working just fine to a different Synology NAS. We had to change over because the old one was getting full. So I know it's possible; I just haven't been able to figure out the security settings on the new NAS. From what I've read online, setting up the Guest account with no password should, in theory, do the trick - but it's not working. Essentially, we have to somehow grant public access to the folder.

Normally, I would just run SQL under a network account, but for whatever reason our BizTalk team would prefer leaving it under Local System.

I get that this question is probably more appropriate for some Synology forum - and I'll be hitting those too - but I figured somebody here has probably done this before. And you folks are generally more helpful 😀
