SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio - SQL 2012

  • We have recently moved from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012. I would like to create reports for SSRS on my local computer for deployment. What do I need to install and where do I get it? I have been reading that the components are different in 2012 than they were in 2008 and I am getting confused. I apologize for the simplicity of the question but I am new to SSRS. I appreciate your help.

  • If you want to develop reports for SQL Server 2012 it is adviced to use the Visual Studio 2010 shell.

You can find this on the SQL Server installation media under the name SQL Server Data Tools.

If you already have Visual Studio 2010 installed, the SQL Server set-up will just add the business intelligence templates.
