Hello
I am currently intersted in studying DBA, I am B.sc. in BIS graduate from university. I study SQL in college i was good in it but PLSQL more difficult. I am bad at other programming languages such as C++,JAVA.
What should i do ? currently i am searching for job but i can not find any, i am 26 years old i feel i am a big failure since younger people already got jobs and made a life.
Does DBA need to have programming skills of other languages ? shall i go to study or not ? i am good only in SQL while big bad at other languages.

Learning anything is a help, of course, but I don't know how to program in C# or Java and I'm not much more than a casual user of PowerShell and all of that was a conscious decision I made to get away from other code back in 2003. I do, however, have a deep knowledge of T-SQL and a good knowledge of things that support it like indexes and table/page structure as well as a pretty good knowledge of SQL Server at the system level. I make a pretty good living as a "Hybrid DBA" that know a lot about T-SQL Development and the System. I have no certifications or degrees and I can't use things like SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, or any of the other 4 letter words associated with SQL Server. I'm telling you all of that because it sounds like SQL Server may be your passion and while passion alone won't put food in your mouth, it helps a lot.

What kind of jobs have you been interviewing for? And please don't take this as a negative or challenging comment but what is it that makes you think you're qualified for those jobs?

I'm asking simply because you might not be selling yourself correctly and the fact that most people want older folks with experience to be a DBA. Being an exclusive Database Developer will be a tough job to find because most people think there's no need for that position because they think that any front-end programmer can write sufficient T-SQL. They're wrong, of course, but that's the perception.
