EMC Migration and Cluster

  • We have an active/passive sql 2008r2 cluster which is attached to a EMC 5300. Migrating to a new 5600 in a few weeks. They have give us 2 paths for the migration, one being a background copy, the other utlizing backup and restore. The background copy may not be feasible as we are already having performance problems with the SAN and can't really add any more overhead. The backup and restore database confuse me as I see no path to maintain the disk resources inside the cluster. Has anyone gone through this process before, any insight or lessons learned appreciated.

  • done this before a few times, i have used a new cluster with its own storage and mighrated databases between clusters.

Leaves a you a rollback scenario in place
