Genarate reports through Log shipping

  • Hi All,

I have one clarification, Is there any disadvantage while using Secondary Database(stand by) to generate the reports.

    Let me explain clearly,

Suppose I have configured Log shpping between Primary and Secondary Server and I want to use Secondary server to generate the reports using SSRS.

So any disadvantge to use Stand by Database for generating reports.

Note: Actually this question has asked by one of interviewer and I could nt give answer. Can someone please help me to get this answer.

    Thanks in advance...

What comes to my mind is that all the sessions using the standby database have to be disconnected when the restore job runs. This is not acceptable in many cases.

  • Doing so means that the secondary server must be licensed.

Also the disconnection that Gianluca mentioned. If there are log restores running every 15 minutes and a report takes 20 minutes to run, that report will never succeed.

  • Thanks Gail and Gianluca for Swift response.

I got the answer clearly, apart from these two answer if anything is there, please let me know.

    Thanks once again...:)
