  • Ah! Read the options in a hurry and ended up selecting the incorrect answer.

Next time I will will count to 10 slowly before answering.

  • Nice clear question.

The proportion of wrong anwers suggests that security still isn't an important part of the job for most DBAs, which is a pity.

    Good question, thanks Steve

Found myself looking for a catch, but went with my knowledge anyway.

Yea, I spent a bit of time trying to figure out the catch as well. I don't use encryption much, so I was sure I was missing something.

Glad to see my limited understanding of database encryption seems to be correct.

  • Great question Steve, thanks!

    Everything is awesome!

Until it's required by law or upper management, adding another layer of security is usually viewed as a waste of resources. I think with the rash of data breaches in the news recently, you will see more of a focus on this subject. I know my company is about force us to de-identify all data not in production...which is going to make my job of analyzing production issues a nightmare.

  • I thought this was a good question and like Tom pointed out, not a lot of people are familiar with them. It does come with some overhead, but it's a pretty powerful approach for column encryption. I usually enjoy questions about encryption, so thanks for it.

  • Definitely lerned somthing new, gr8 question, thanx.
