Restarting the SSRS

  • Hi,

How often we need to restart the report server database engine? Is it good practice to restart weekly?

  • Why would you restart it?

Need an answer? No, you need a question

  • Further on Koen's question, restarting the service is not a blanket solution, in fact the same principle applies here as elsewhere, why "fix" it if it isn't broken? Also you should keep in mind that valuable metrics are lost (sys.dm_xxxx) when the database service is restarted.

  • The reports are taking long time. Once I restart the server, the report time come down. The report is using the default parameters for the sp. After the restart it comedown 3 hr.

So I am planning to schedule to restart frequently, just finding advice on this.

Quick questions, what are the specs of the box, what services are running and what are the memory configurations for those services? First though would be adding memory to the box but without more information, that's only a guess;-)

  • I can provide this details after some time.

I do have one doubt to clarify. We have a report subscribed for one time run but when I check the subscriptions the status is showing pending.

What does it mean by pending from 2 days.

Is that report run is completed and just sending the mail is pending?

Usually report time we can divide into 3 parts right.

Data retrieval + Report Processing + Report rendering.

How to find in which status it is pending? The email is correct only. The another reports are sending fine to that email

I run the trace, I can see that login and sproc but the login is using to execute several reports and also might be the same stored procedure will use in 2-3 reports also right.

How can I confirm that this report is still running that is the reason the status is still pending?

    Any help would be appreciate
