Have complex SSRS reports that were developed in VS 2010-can I upgrade them to VS 2012 or 2013 without problems?

  • I developed some reasonably complicated reports using Visual Studio 2010 (shell) some time ago. It's been almost a year since I worked with them but now they are needed again. If I open them in Visual Studio 2013 against a new SQL Server 2014 database (originally the reports used SQL Server 2012), will I encounter any gotchas that aren't readily apparent at first?

In other words, have any of you had any issues with doing something like this? I googled for the answer for a while but I haven't been able to find a clear answer one way or the other. They seem at first glance to be ok but I need to work up an estimate of how long it will take me to get everything upgraded and populated with new data, otherwise I would just work with them and see what problems I encounters, if any, before posting.

Thanks in advance for your response.

    Thanks.

  • There aren't a lot of changes between 2012 and 2014, so I don't expect a lot of issues.

  • Thanks for your help. I worried about the Visual Studio versions with respect to SSRS than the database versions. Usually SSRS availability lags after a new version of the database engine is released.

It's pretty OK for SSRS, it's SSIS that's having the most troubles.

  • Thanks again. But now I'm concerned about SSIS. After working on upgrading my reports, I am going to be setting up SSIS packages to process an external inbound data feed. What are people doing about the issues to workaround them?

    Maybe using VS 2012?

    Thanks.
