How to apply service pack2 on production server

  • Hi experts

currently we have below setup on windows server box

windows server 2008R2 Enterpise edition &

    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) - 10.50.1600.1 (X64) Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)

we are planning to install/apply SP2 of Named Instance of production sqlserver.

Please provided some check list or steps.

  • The current Service Pack for SQL Server 2008 R2 is SP3:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44271

    Steps:

    1) Download SP binaries

    2) Apply in test environment

    3) Test applications

    4) Apply in production

If it is a clustered instance, apply on the passive nodes first and the active node as last.

The Service Pack setup is just as easy as "next/next/next". You'll be asked which instances to patch, nothing more.
