Cannot connect to SSAS 2012 - the connection timed out. (microsoft.analysisservices.adomdclient)

  • Had a real pain in installing SQL 2012 developer on Windows 8. Most of it seems to be working but went back to SSAS and cannot connect to the instance.

Added myself into Admin group for SSAS and that has helped in that now we are down to timing out.

Tried connecting to it as (local) and also naming the machine.

    Tried firewall off

    Checked AS Service is running

    Thanks

  • Add to that I have accidentally removed the login for the service. Not a good day at the office

    🙁

  • Bizare

added a named instance and same result.

Installed VirtualBox, Win 8 and SQL 2012 and all is ok on the virtual box but not on my machine?

Any suggestions? Have googled and drawn a blank. I am in the administrative group. I am in the SSAS admin group. Browser on, all services running, firewall disabled etc

    Driving me bonkers

    Cheers

  • Are you attempting to connect to an Analysis Services instance from Management Studio? If so, try the option 'Run as Administrator' when you launch SSMS; Shift +RightClick > Run as Administrator.

  • Cheers dude,

just tried that, oddly I though that was going to do it but sadly no.

    Tried connecting to

    (local)

    Then browesd to default

    Then browsed to named instance.

    Same result as before.

    So as an update

Went to SQL Server SP2 11.0.5058.0

uninstalled Analysis Services (both instances - named and default)

Clean Install - add feature to get default Instance SSAS back

    checked firewalls again

    Same as before

    🙁

  • Changed the account that SSAS service runs under to my account.

    No change

Then looked at the advanced properties. Now the timeout was set to 15. Changed this to zero and it connects (eventually).

So we have connection, but why is it taking so long?

    Cheers

    E
