SQL 2012 Not Quite a Cert Question

  • All,

We are about to do an expedited upgrade to SQL 2012. I say expedited because we didn't plan on doing it until late next year, but a vendor upgrade is forcing us to get upgraded by the end of this year. (We're currently on 2008).

I have not yet played with 2012. I'm ordering a dev copy to install and play with, but as I'm waiting for it to come, does anyone have any suggestions on books / quick training material that I can use to get up to speed before we implement?

I'm looking for anything on the new Admin tools, t-sql capabilities, and SSIS functionality. SSRS and SSAS is not important to me at this moment, though it probably will be later on.

  • Microsoft release a free PDF called 'Introducing SQL Server 2012' which should help you get started.

It can be found here:- http://blogs.msdn.com/b/microsoft_press/archive/2012/03/15/free-ebook-introducing-microsoft-sql-server-2012.aspx

  • Wunderbar! I'll take a look.

    Thank you.

  • Admin stuff fairly similar in most cases. Lots of T-SQL changes. The Inside SQL Server stuff, especially Itzik's Windowing book are great.

Thanks, Steve. I'll look into that one also.
