Mirroring in Recovery issue

  • Due to a hardware failure, we now have a mirror copy stuck in recovery mode. The mirroring session got disconnected and we need to lose the mirror copy to set it back up again.

Problem - we can't change the database properties because it's in Recovery mode. We can't update the the state column (from 2) in the system tables because you can't update the system tables (well you can but it requires DAC and Single User Mode on the Server but I'm not sure I want to go there yet, I would like a simpler solution if possible). I am considering options around taking the drive offline within the cluster but am still not sure if that will benfit us.

    Any suggestions?

  • Is the original principal back online?

  • Yes - with no mirroring set on it, just a normal database. Need to remove the mirror copy so we can backup/restore the principal and reset mirroring.

If the original principal is back online then the mirror session would still be active.

Has the failed principal been rebuilt?
