TempDB and Mount Points

  • Hi,

I have created a volume for TempDB data files (G:\) and now created another volume for TempDB data files as a mount point (G:\TempDBData\Mount). I have altered half of the tempdb data files to the new mount point and restarted SQL. Success, right? Hmm...

I opened PerfMon to see how the disk utilization is for the two volumes (G:\ and G:\TempDBData\Mount) and it looks like only G:\ is being utilized. All of the disk counters for G:\TempDBData\Mount are zero. When I opened Performance Dashboard I/O Statistics report and expand tempdb, it only shows tempdev and templog in the list.

What happened to the other TempDB data files? How come it looks like the mount point isn't being used in PerfMon?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!
