Switch from prod DBA to BI Admin or Cloud?

  • I would like to understand the pros and cons of switching the job role from a core production DBA to either BI admin or somewhere into the cloud.

Are there any blogs or articles which can talk more about this transition?

  • Are you any good at the other 2 jobs?

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • When you say cloud what do you mean? A DBA that administers instances hosted on a cloud platform, someone that manages the cloud platform, one of another many types of roles related to cloud computing?

As a DBA that works with both onsite SQL Server \ My SQL instances and cloud hosted instances there is significant differences in what is possible.

Personally if you are a good DBA stick with that an improve your knowledge of what RDBMS system are available in a cloud environment such as Amazons AWS, Azure etc. That way you are more versatile.
