sql server 200 maintenance plans

  • Puzzled about this. I am running daily backups for 3 Databases in a SQL Server 2000 Instance. I am using the built-in maintenace plans.

When I setup the backup - I am checking the box to delete Backups older than (1) days and backup extension BAK.

The backup runs but does not delete the older backups in the folder.

I have checked the System event logs as well as the SQL Server log and I do not see any errors and the backup runs fine, it just does not delete the older backups. I have other sql server 2000 instance where this is working. This has worked in the past for the SQL Server Instance in question - does anyone have a clue as to why this has stopped working?

  • Yes, that is the tricky things in SQL Server 2000. While delete you need to put proper path and extention of file should be BAK not .BAK

    Try and update the outcome.

  • Thank you.

Tried this again with a new backup path to and ensured that the maintenance plan is using BAK and not .BAK

still does not work. very frustrating.
