rsreportserver.config Server Version Too New

  • Hi

I have a problem with my Report Server expecting an old version after pointing it at a newer server... I keep getting the error...

The version of the report server database is either in a format that is not valid, or it cannot be read. The found version is 'C.0.9.45'. The expected version is 'C.0.6.54'. To continue, update the version of the report server database and verify access rights.

The report server is SQL 2008 Express Advanced, it was looking at a SQL 2000 box but we've since pointed it at a SQL 2008 box. I can run the reports directly on the report database server without issue, so that seems all fine as does the infrastructural connectivity. It seems to be in the rsreportserver.config file. It looks like I have to either edit the encrypted data or regenerate a new file but can't seem to find where to do this?

    Any ideas??? Help???

    Thanks

    Tony

  • The ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB built with a differente version of SQL Server.

    1) Backup your EncryptionKey

    2) Backup ReportServer DB

    3) Delete old ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB

    4) Create new databases from Reporting Services Configuration Manager (with your last version of SQL)

    5) Restore old data in new

    6) Restore the EncryptionKey

    ....And pray 😀

  • IIRC you will get the same error if you try and do the above.

Pretty sure you need to upgrade your RS instance so it is the same version (including service pack) as the sql instance that supports the RS databases
