max server memory configuration

  • hello all,

    please find below configuration

windows server 2003 enterprise edition 64 bit

sql server 2005 enterprise edition 64 bit

    Total RAM= 127 GB

my production server having 4 instances of sql server. and i see most of the time server consumes almost total memory. and in task manager i see all SQL process takes higher memory (total of 4 instances approx 118 GB )

I just want to configure "max server memory" parameter for each instance of SQL.

most of the time i configure this value approx 65 to 70% on those serves which holds single instance of SQL only but as this server having multiple instances so please let me know how to identify or calulate this parameter value for each instance.

    thanks

HOw much memory currently being consumed by each instance ? that can give you rough estimate.

Add more memory, 1GB is ridiculous these days for even a desktop. My phone has more memory than that.
