We have a request come in to have the storage moved form HP--> EVA. The server that is part of this has SQL Mirroring on this.

What will be the best way to to this
1)as storage admin has requested to break mirroring
2)application folks don't like that idea since they have mirroring setup and would like to use this without any downtime

Expected time needed by the Storage Admin ~ 1hr.

SQL Stnd Edition 2008
# of Databases - 5
Mirroring safety lvl - Full

Thank you in advance!

They want you to break mirroring while they move the storage?
What are they moving, just the mirror instances storage or the principal too?
Are they moving the LUNs between EVAs?

Think you'll need to break the mirroring because you won't be able to move the storage for the db - unless the Eva's can do this in the background (ones I've used couldn't).

Maybe suggest doing this work out of hours or at a quiet time as a compromise ?

Cheers

so all you need to do is ensure that safety is set to full, remove the witness temporarily if you are using one and pause the mirror session. Keep an eye on the principal transaction log size.

The storage admins should be able to mirror the present LUN to the new storage and break this mirror at the last moment once it is synchronised on both storage systems.

Just resume the SQL mirror session once the mirror instance is back online
