I would like to know if there is a way to stop users from being able to see the tables of my database by stopping users from being able to expand the Table node in the Object Explorer?

I don't think you can disable the expanding option, but users can only see those tables, which they have select permission on.
So unless you give select permission to either public or the user, they won't see any tables.

Correction:
User can only see tables where they have any permission on, doesn't have to be "Select".

Tested it too.

As Markus said unless you give select permission to either public or the user, they won't see any tables.

Just curious...you have users that have SSMS installed but you don't want them to be able to see the tables? What are you trying to accomplish here?

We were just looking at increasing our security for our databases. Some of our tables hold contact details such as telephone numbers, email addresses, etc. Apart from encrypting the entire data I was hoping there would be a way of creating a new user login with permissions restricting access to certain tables, including expanding and viewing the columns.
