I would think application DBA is more on development side.

I think that Brent's descriptions are probably the easiest to understand. DBAs that have a foot in each camp are frequently referred to as "Hybrid DBAs" although many Application DBAs also seem to do both.
I'm a "Hybrid" but my official title is "just" "Sr. DBA". They could call me "Keeper of the carrier pigeons" for all I care so long as they let me do the job.
--Jeff Moden "RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for "Row-By-Agonizing-Row".
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code: Stop thinking about what you want to do to a row... think, instead, of what you want to do to a column."

Many thanks! If you're applying for a job at a specific organization, then there is no telling what they mean by "Application DBA". You need to ask them.
There are DBA's that specialize in maintaining database applications like PeopleSoft, SharePoint, or GreenPlum, and half their time could be focussed on performing application specific tasks in addition to the more general tasks like backups and monitoring.
