Nice question!

Full text indexing isn't something I use... had to do a bit of research on this one.

Based on what I read, it looks like even if you had removed the comment lines from the beginning and end of the file, you would also have to use sp_fulltext_load_thesaurus_file to get SQL Server to parse the updated file. Is that the case?

Great question. I don't do much with full text indexing but that is going to change for a project in the very near future so the timeliness was good for me. Thank Steve.

I remembered this from past forays into Thesaurus files and trying to load them before.

thanks for the brush up!

@sestell1
From what I read in BOL, the first time a full text query uses an updated thesaurus file, it automatically loads the thesaurus file.. I have to check if it does so by calling sp_fulltext_load_thesaurus_file or if there is any other way...

Nice interesting question.

But why 2 points instead of just 1? It isn't difficult, or complicated. Is it to encourage people who don't know the answer to read a BoL page to find it?

Who would miss the words "Commented out" right there in the file and still be able to execute a stored procedure? Who would even use an editor where the block would not be clearly coloured grey, green or...?
