we have SQL Server 2000 hosting .net application databases. We are facing application time out issues with the below issue

: A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The semaphore timeout period has expired

When I query select * from sysprocesses there are many processes lastwaittype as MISCELLANEOUS and command type as AWAITING COMMAND and also sometimes NETWORKIO

Please advise what could be the reason to get the error A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The semaphore timeout period has expired
