  • Writing SQL Queries is always helpful to a DBA career. Especially if you take the time to learn new T-SQL coding techniques and test out the performance differences between similar bits of code (like CASE verses IF).

The real question isn't "is my current job helpful to my career." It's "how can I make my current job helpful to my long term career goals." Before you ask any other questions, you need to decide what your long term career goals are. Knowing this information will help you sculpt your current job (and any future jobs) into jobs that do support and assist your career.

So, how about it? What is it you want to do with your career? What kind of DBA do you want to be? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
