SQL connections timing out, except for a few

  • Came in this morning, SQL cluster down. Switch OS had been upgraded, but didn't come up. Got switch booted, and SQL services started. THought all was well. Got back to desk and attempted to connect via SSMS, timeout. Users reporting timeouts as well. But a few apps are working fine. Can create ODBC connection from desktop and it works. I can ping and remote to server, connect to SSMS locally fine. Run Profiler and see there is activity for a few select logins, but majority report timeouts. Got network team to do some captures of me trying to connect via SSMS. Wireshark reported server says: Read Response, Error Status Pending. Having tough time with this. Why would a few select logins work fine? Any ideas?

  • I can setup a local ODBC using driver "SQL Server" from my desktop successfully, using both SQL and Windows Authentication. Butr when I use driver "SQL Server Native Client 10.0" I am unable to connect. There are two instances of SQL Native Client 10.0 on the server (32 and 64 bit). Both allowing TCP/IP. Why would it timeout when trying to connect this way, but not the other?
