I have a SQL Server installed on a VM with 2008 R2 version and the OS is also Windows 2008.
The total memory on the Server is 16 GB but we have allocated only 8 GB for SQL. now, with perfmon I traced some counters. During some amount of time I see high values of Page file usage(paging) everyday but at the same amount of time the available amount of memory is around 5 GB. So my question is what can cause this paging if the OS already has some good amount of memory. I can understand that at times SQL may need more than 5 GBs of memory and may cause some cahce flush to adjust newly required set of data but why paging is being shown. I am confused.
