Hi,
I have SQL Server 2008 Dev Edition on my system, but I'm working with a client who's OLTP database still runs on SQL Server 2005. In time I'll probably need to develop some ETL processes in SSIS for their system, but given BIDS on SQL 2008 can't create SSIS packages for SQL 2005 I'm now trying to find SQL Server 2008 Dev Edition.
Any ideas on where to find this? Or is it possible to obtain a copy of it and use my product key from SQL Server 2008 Dev Edition? Seems like MS used to allow you to run prior versions of a product if you had a valid product key for a later version, but I don't know if this is still the case.
Thanks --

I searched for "sql server 2005 developer edition" on Google, and clicked on the Shopping filter (on the left) and found a couple of places that look like they still sell it. Check that out, might get you what you need.

GSquared (10/3/2012) I searched for "sql server 2005 developer edition" on Google, and clicked on the Shopping filter (on the left) and found a couple of places that look like they still sell it. Check that out, might get you what you need.
Thanks... I didn't think to check the Shopping section of Google, but this still didn't show much. Netbites has it listed for $28 but it's backordered, Oakale.com has it listed but their site won't load, and Amazon has it from $99 to $225 which is way more than I'd think it's worth. I did find one reasonable seller on ebay selling it for under $30, but though the heading says "media only" the description says "product key included" so I'm waiting to hear back on which way it is before bidding.

But if someone has a boxed copy of SQL 2005 Dev Edition and wants to part with it free to cheap I'd be willing to take it off your hands given you've uninstalled it and it's not part of an MSDN/Technet subscription as to not violate the license. I'd assume most IT shops are like ours and have the shelf of legacy software that just collects dust Maybe someone has this on their shelf...

Yeah, I didn't dig into details. Was just suggesting a starting point.
I might have an old copy of SQL 2005 Dev sitting around at home, now that I think about it. I'll see if I can remember to check on that tonight. If so, I don't need it and you can have it.

Can't do better than free!
If GSquared doesn't have the goods this site seems to have it:

Sent my copy over to him. Assuming USPS doesn't lose it or anything like that, should be there soon enough.
