Laptop with SQL, 12yr old Appleton rum for the presenters, $1 bills to put in the presenters shorts, that sort of thing?
I'd have listed business cards, but I don't think anyone here where I work has business cards (except the sales people,) and I don't know that I could get some run off personally in time...

Don't give the presenters rum until after their presentations.
Nah, you don't really need anything. Something to take notes. Other than that, be ready to network, ask questions, engage. Lots of people go, stand in the corner, sit in the sessions, don't talk to anyone, leave, and wonder what the big deal is. You absolutely have to plan on talking to people. That's the most important part of the event. The learning is secondary (but important too).

Don't bother with the laptop. I've been to three SQL Saturdays, and have never seen the need for one; it ends up just being something else to carry around. Something with which to take notes (a tablet or -- God forbid! -- pen and paper) would probably be helpful.
I started a SQL Saturday thread
over here a while back
, but it didn't take off as much as I thought it would.

Cool, thanks!
I'll probably then just bring my tablet (which has a detachable keyboard, I can't easily use the on-screen for fast note taking) for notes.
Going to try to avoid being a "sit in the corner" person, do some networking, chat with people.
Looking forward to this!

By all means! This is one of the best reasons to attend a SQL Saturday! I've made some great connections and even made a few friends by attending these things! I even hooked up with Grant Fritchey and Steve Jones, among others, at SQL Saturday.
Have a great time!

Hooked up as in chatted, shared a beer and/or talked. Just so we're clear what everyone can expect at one of these events.

Well it's a good thing I'm not speaking at SQL Saturday. Now, when I show up for SQL In The City in a couple of weeks, there better be rum.
Ha! Kidding.

Argh!
I just realized the subject of this thread is WRONG!
It's about the SQL in the City, in Chicago, I have NO idea where I came up with the Saturday portion!

In that case, pack beer. Good European beer, not American beer.
