Hi all,
Just a little question ... I have ( over the past 18 months ) managed to get my DBA and DBD qualifications in 2008R2, and was all geared up for training on 2008 BI in October this year.

Unfortunatley the training centre have now pulled the 2008 training and are concentrating on the 2012 training now.

I can do the 2012 BI training - but wanted to know if there will be any advantages or "New Features" that will not be available when I return and make using 2008 BI more awkward.

I suppose the question I am tring to ask is ... Will training on 2012 prove useful when using 2008 BI back in the office, I do understand that the qualifications will not be conclusive to the 2008 track I was pursuing - but will have to do the 2012 DBA/DBD migration path at some point.

If you have the opportunity to do SQL 2012 BI training then go for it. The BI stack in SQL 2012 is very significantly better than the SQL 2008 stack.

The skills you gain could help you in building a case to upgrade to SQL 2012. There should be very little pain in doing an upgrade from SQL 2008, and you gain a lot.

If all else fails, you will have up-to-date skills that will look good on your CV.

Just a couple of things ... Yes I totally agree that it will look good on the CV - but at the moment not looking to change ( also would be tied in to repay within 12 months if I did leave.... ummm )

With the upgrade to 2012, we would be dependant on our ERP providers ensuring that their system would work on that platform ... so would be in their hands.

I am looking at this more so as a stepping stone, yes to learn the new features etc, but to use the knowledge from the 2012 course to setup a Reporting Server, so I guess that would not matter as it would be a standalone system that just points into 2005 and 2008 SQL databases.

I am currently using a sql 2008 reporting server, which I am geting to grips with and reporting but need to have the training to give me that big boost forward in the knowledge.

I have been a programemr developer for quite a few years and very experienced within Crystal reports and SQL MS - but need to start using RS and AS so ...

I think I will go for it and start looking as 2012 with AS for my reporting server.

Hi Guys,

3 days to go ..... for the 2012 BI training ....

Is there any reference material ( Free PDF ) on BI basics for 2012 or reference sites that I can go to ?

Would like to try and get a little bit of knowledge before the onslaught of 6 days, 15 hours, 2 exams !! ...

Any thoughts, help would be appreciated.
