Hi people!

I'm asking directly to people who works in Business Intelligence!

Definition of BI?
Do performancepoint, reporting services, excel services are included on BI?

If you work in the area of BI, what kind of job do you do?

Thanks
Regards to all!

There's no set definition of BI, but the one from Wikipedia is a very broad one and covers it all :)

Business intelligence (BI) is defined as the ability for an organization to take all its capabilities and convert them into knowledge.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_intelligence

If you ask different people about the definition of BI, you'll likely get very different answers. Some people only consider OLAP as BI, and Excel services and SSRS as just "reporting". In my opinion, reporting is part of BI as well.

I work as a consultant where most of my time I spent in SSIS developing ETL (together with TSQL). Most people talking about BI forget about ETL because it is something the end-users never will see and is thus not important :) However, developing the ETL usually takes about 60% of the projects costs. Furthermore I do some cube development in SSAS and some report development in SSRS.

What’s the deal with Excel & SSIS?

If I may ask a related question - What's the difference between a Business Analyst and a Business Intelligence Analyst?
