My problem is that I have many different SQL servers and would like to have report emailed to me every morning showing if last nights backups were succussful or not.
I need something that can work across many servers and versions (2005, 2008, 2008r2).
Is there any canned software out there that can check many different servers and report on backup status?
Is there any online guides on how I can create something like the above using SSRS?

You might want to take a look at Central Management Servers. It's a way to control & report back on multiple servers from a single location. Here's the BOL entry:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb895144.aspx
I wrote an article about this
over on Simple-Talk
.
If all this is too much work, my company, Red Gate Software, does sell a backup management tool,
SQL Backup
. Not only does it manage all your backups from a central point, but you get automated testing, compression (better than Native) and a bunch of other utilities built in. There's a free eval period.

I'll check them both out.
Thanks Grant.
