Just an idea, and it might be something which has been raised before.

The latest spamer ybz199009 is starting to wind a few people up, so my question is can an authentication put this word in this box kind of thing be put on the profile creation page to stop say automated bots just randomly creating profiles.

Granted this wont stop people who are actually doing it manually but might reduce the number of threads which get hijacked allowing people to see what threads have be updated by people trying to help.
