The SQL Server install checks the operating system when it starts, and Windows 2000 fils this check.

The error message will tell you the name of the rule that does the check, and you can rerun with a /skiprules parameter naming the rule that failed.

However, if you do get SQL 2008 installed on Windows 2000, do not expect that it will work correctly. If you do get problems, do not expect that anyone can give you a solution other than re-install on a supported operating system.
