As always, Chris, an excellent article. I'll be shooting this article to certain members in my organization. I also like how you've pointed out a need to understand branching, labeling, and pinning in VSS. I know a lot of folks who just "throw it in there." and wonder why they have issues later.

One year later....  Great article, I use to be a Configuration Manager/CodeMaster at Nordstroms web site. I work elsewhere now; we're a small shop (3 web devers), but even so our source code control could be better. I'm doing DBA and SQL dev work now, but I should still help out in getting things a little more organized. Good stuff, I'll have to check out your other articles. cl
