They in the process maintain a standardized version of US addresses. There are companies that buy/rent this data for address standarization/cleansing. You can send yours off to one of these services and use their alogorithms to clean up your addresses. It is usually a quick turnaround time. Each country has its own requirements for address formatting. In the UK, the Royal Mail site has links to some of the people able to deal with UK addresses.
