Pretty much the same atmosphere. Started out raining then slowed down to a misty drizzle. Game was delayed an hour but I got to see Mr. Triple Crown and Prince Fielder play! It stopped drizzling just before game time and it turned out to be a beautiful night.During the first couple innings I checked out the scoreboard for other games going on and I saw the Twins were up on Boston 11-5 in the bottom of the 2nd... I had a strange feeling the night wasn't going to end well.

RE: Talking baseball

Went to Yankees/Rockies last night. First game in two years, and almost a rainout. It drizzled, and then came down hard almost the entire game. I say... it ain't over till its over...I remember the last time the Marlins won the WS... they rolled into Cincinnati and swept the Reds right before the All Star break... they were 10 games below .500 at the All Star break... ended up being the Wild Card and winning the World Series....Back in the late 90s the Angels were like 11 games behind the Mariners with like 15 games left in the season and on the last day of the season won the division.... New York isn't doing so bad, not as bad as everyone thought they would with their list of broken players. I'm actually surprised with Toronto. Not sure if they've just had a tough schedule but they did a lot of buying during the off-season and it's not showing up in their record. Detroit in the central is on par with KC. I'd think with all their firepower and pitching they would be doing a little better within their own division.Texas fans are loving the Angels right about now. 9-15, yikes. And to the Astros... welcome to the AL, you're as good as Miami. I think the NL upset is Atlanta really giving it to Washington. So much hype around the nats, predictions of pennants and world series appearances. And here they are, in second. They have a huge 4 game series in Atlanta starting today through Thursday. They could either put a hurtin' on the Braves or shoot themselves in the foot and lose a lot of ground to them in the standings.Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Cincinnati are all pretty tight in the NL Central.Arizona and Colorado are tied atop the NL West. Good fun. Kinda weird to hear NY fans yelling "YOOOOOOOOUK!". Got to see some future hall of famers play. Got to see Ichiro play, something I've always wanted to see. Some great baseball on Monday. A few upsets and a few blowouts. Yu Darvish's almost perfect game (d'oh!). Harper's back to back jacks. And Boston beat NY :)Payroll issueI say leave it. It's like a business with supply and demand. If A-Rod can find someone to pay him 29 mil/yr, good for him. If a team is smart enough to say the product isn't worth the asking price, they pass. If they gobble 'em up like he's the last ball player on the planet, well then shame on them for being irresponsible with their money.Looking at last year's salary standings and final w/l standings 6 of the top 10 teams had a salary under 85mil. Washington (81mil) and Cincinnati (82mil) finished 1 and 2 (NY in 3rd with 197mil). Sure, you can make an argument that you can buy championships or wins but I wouldn't say that it's a given. Lots of teams find a way to stay competitive without spending over 200mil, they just need a strong farm system and a creative coach. As for Scott Boras, he's not an agent. He's a salesman. And it looks like Jay-Z wants a piece of that action as well.

RE: Talking baseball
Steve Jones - SSC Editor (3/29/2013)
I don't love government intervention, but I do think it's needed in cases. I always thought that was a dumb thing.
Looks like they haven't updated their rules yet8.05(c)
A pitcher is to step directly toward a base before throwing to that base but does not require him to throw (except to first base only) because he steps. It is possible, with runners on first and third, for the pitcher to step toward third and not throw, merely to bluff the runner back to third; then seeing the runner on first start for second, turn and step toward and throw to first base. This is legal. However, if, with runners on first and third, the pitcher, while in contact with the rubber, steps toward third and then immediately and in practically the same motion “wheels” and throws to first base, it is obviously an attempt to deceive the runner at first base, and in such a move it is practically impossible to step directly toward first base before the throw to first base, and such a move shall be called a balk. Of course, if the pitcher steps off the rubber and then makes such a move, it is not a balk.
But that's the change for this year. It's a balk if you fake to third and throw to first.

RE: Talking baseball

No plans here.
