It's easy to install and does not require anything to be installed on the monitored server instances.Spotlight is more for monitoring of backups, jobs, disk, cpu, memory. Also easy to install and does not require anything installed on the monitored servers. We ended up with both Spotlight and Ignite.Regarding Foglight: My personal recommendation: Don't go there. The web GUI is sluggish, you need a master degree to install. Monitoring stops at least once a month. Quest has been trying to fix this for us for over a year, but no progress has been made.

RE: Monitoring Tools

Again I refer you back to the topic you rasied earlierhttp://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1410892-391-1.aspx

RE: Monitoring Tools

I compared the tools from Idera, Red Gate and SQL Sentry. I found that SQL Sentry gave me:- An executable client, eliminating the need for a web server- A polling approach instead of having to install a monitor application on the monitored servers- The ability to drill down to what statements were running at a point in time- Integration with a great query plan tool plus a view similar to Oracle's explain plan- A monitor for SSAS as well as SQL ServerI believe that the SQL Sentry and Red Gate tools are both excellent. We chose SQL Sentry. Overall, I've found it to be a very good tool that I'd be comfortable recommending to anyone.

RE: Monitoring Tools

You're really going to need to evaluate each of the tools to see which will do what you need for the money you're willing to pay. 10 instances is a pretty small installation, so any of the tools can support you. All the best tools have a free trial period, so you can install them and test them out.

Monitoring Tools

Need to install one for my Environment for monitoring 10 instances
