Available at No Cost to use and avilable today, there is the CA Database Command Center that supports DB2, SQL Server, and Oracle and all from a web browser. You may want to check it out as well as you cant beat the price

Toad for DB2 V3.0 is in Beta right now (we are expecting to GA next month (July). You can check it out here: http://www.toadsoft.com/toaddb2/toaddb2beta.html

It includes numerous enhancements including the ability to compare/migrate/sync DB2 v8 and V9 objects including sequences . Moreover, you can also do some really cool stuff with it like migrating object stats, saving the migration settings for reuse, transforming source schemas/tablespaces to different schemas/tablespaces on the target etc..

Quest Central for DB2, while it does include database administration, is more for performance monitoring/diagnostics. If your looking for a tool from Quest that performs database management you should be looking at Toad for DB2. This product has a customizable look and feel and offers functionality for database administration as well as database development. You can download a trial from www.quest.com. Also, Toad for DB2 is licensed per seat rather than per server which might fit your monetary needs more closely.

Thanks for the info. I'm checking out DBArtisan right now. From a price point, there is no comparison, Quest charges per CPU. I have a couple of hundred servers to monitor, and DBArtisan charges per user, so its $10K vs. a few hundred thousand K.

I have used Quest Central for DB2 and it is one of those very frustrating products that have some good bits mixed in with aspects that are rubbish. e.g. The Compare tool to compare one schema in say Prod to it's equivalent in Pre-Prod and can prove very useful in detecting variations. However support for Sequences is virtually zero.

Moreover, having experienced several release of the product over time, and raised numerous bugs with Quest, I have repeatedly found aspects fixed in an earlier version returning to haunt you. I have also spoken to their lead developers in the states about aspects I would like to see, promises made but not delivered.

Most recently Quest seem to have ditched the Quest Central direction in favour of Toad for DB2, probably tied to their dispute with CA over the origins of some of the source QC code.

Having seen Embarcadero's demo, it seemed a much more rounded product and supports things Quest ignored (e.g. Sequences). If you are going to check out any products, I would personally suggest avoiding Quest.

I have not tried Quest Central, however I do use Embarcadero's DBArtisan. It works cross platform for DB2, SQL Server, Oracle and Sybase. I have used it for both Oracle and SQL Server and really like it. You would have to talk to a representative about pricing though. I know they have individual workstation licenses and server licenses at various prices. Their web site is http://www.embarcadero.com/ for more info.

I'm looking for a tool to manage several DB2\Linux databases that is similar to Microsoft SQL's Enterprise Manager?

Can you comment on wether Quest Central can do the job? Would it require me to buy a license for each instance?
