They may be changing their ways. There was so much flak over MCSEs being decertified that Microsoft decided to add the version to it. Looking at the MCSD, the same thing is slated to happen. One can hold an MCSD for either the 6.0 environment or the .NET environment (once the exams are available).K. I am a CNA and MCP (just lazy and have not taken the MCDBA tests I need to finish which would also finish my MCSE) My biggest beef is the way Microsoft does not keep your certification in effect when they phase a product out. My CNA is for NetWare4 and is recognized that way. With Microsofts phasing out and not allowing you to keep your certification titles based on product is poor (again IMHO). I see lots of houses that still use SQL 6.5 and hiring a 7 DBA is not the best solution. I do like Brians point thou, you should have experience before you take the certification but with the way technology changes daily that is not fesiable either (CPA requirements change very little but as you see with 65. to 7 there were major changes). I believe Microsoft shoudl adopt MCDBA 7 and MCDBA 2000 that way when you go to a company and say we want a 7 person you have that title not just MCDBA and have never worked with 6.5. I'm a CPA (Certified Public Acct) and held technical certifications (CNE, MCSE, currently working on MCDBA). The accounting world has long recognized that passing test(s) is not enough. An individual earns the title of CPA only after passing a hellish 3 day test AND 2 years of public or 5 years of private accounting experience (and then he's still green). This can be duplicated in the technical world. Try this: A minimum time period (i.e. 2 - 3 years) employement at a Microsoft Solution Provider +plus+ passing the exams should reduce the cat fights, increase the coin associated with the certification(s) and provide more comfort to entities hiring the "certified professionals".Edited by - Brian Staup on 04/25/2002 12:35:42 PM
