I have a son who is on the autism spectrum (higher functioning, fortunately, but still very dependent upon me), which is severely weighting down my family. My wife is so worn out from attending to his needs, and our other children, that she cannot work. She goes to sleep at night before we can be alone. My son's issues impact us so much that many necessary things, like reliable and safe transportation is impossible for me to afford. (I drive a 22 year old Ford Escort to a bus stop, because I dare not going further with it. My wife drives a 25 year old Toyota minivan, which isn't reliable enough for us to drive outside of the metropolitan area where we live.) Fortunately both vehicles are paid off. I've got 2 daughters who desperately need to have braces, but I can't afford that. I try not to go to the doctor unless it is absolutely necessary, because I cannot afford it.My dreams, as to what I would do if I won the lottery or something like that, are very practical. I would provide my daughters with braces, in fact I would get us all seen by a dentist. (That's not happened in 10 years.) I would get help for my son. I would get my wife a reliable family vehicle. And for myself, I think I would finally get more than 4 hours of sleep a night. That would be so nice.

RE: WWBOD

[quote][b]G. I suppose the big question is whether we're spending our lives in a way that would lead to no regrets. Whether you're a believer in God or not, the motto of the Jesuits is good advice for a satisfying life: Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam, For the Greater Glory of God.
