Just wanted to know if there is any difference betwen Sql patching in 2005 and 2008 Cluster evn
Not just the patching but the installation of the product changed. You can however perform a rolling upgrade on SQL Server 2005 from SP3 onwards using the /PASSIVE switch.

RE: difference between SQL Service pack patching in 2005 and 2008 Cluster evn

Thanks. a lot for the responce.

RE: difference between SQL Service pack patching in 2005 and 2008 Cluster evn

I believe so. In patching a SQL 2005 cluster you have to patch the active node of the cluster and the cluster updates all nodes at the same time.In SQL 2008 you patch the passive nodes first and then fail over SQL to an upgraded node before patching the last node. It reduces downtime this way.Apply a service pack or hotfix SQL Server 2008 to a failover cluster instance

difference between SQL Service pack patching in 2005 and 2008 Cluster evn

HI.
