If CALCULATE has been replaced with something else, removing CALCULATE doesn't have an effect so its a bit ambiguous.  I just tried it to see.  All of my dimensions were still intact and the cube "processed" without any problems from BIDS - there just weren't any aggregations on the measures (so the cube is a bit useless but it didn't report any errors).
