Guess I read "on the table" as the target. Sigh... c'est la vie.ChadHmm.... I think I just thought of another QOD question... :)

RE: Update Stats with Reindex

I liked the point of the question and I hope that is not missed. I have seen occassions where the DBA performed a REINDEX in a maintenance plan followed by an update of statistics. The second step is more than just a waste of the maintenance window and CPU, it negates some of the benefit of the reindex (unless a full scan is specified).

RE: Update Stats with Reindex

I've updated the question to show partial scan with the plain yes answer and awarded back points.

RE: Update Stats with Reindex

I liked the question, but think the answer could have been just yes. I didn't know that the table scans stats were included "free" in the rebuild. A question I have, if you do update stats with a sample scan, after a rebuild, you lose the table scan stats. If you do generic update stats after rebuild do you also lose the table scan stats? If so, then doing rebuild would always be preferred to update stats?

RE: Update Stats with Reindex
Vivien Xing (8/13/2008)
I think answer "Yes" is also right.
