The Cloud is Nothing Special

  • Having been asked to develop many a system that can be used remotely as well as at the clients' offices (sometimes multiple sites) it would be far simpler for these situations to be covered by hosting the application (and data) in "The Cloud". It reduces the security and remoting issues (which are frequently issues which no-one wants to care about i.e. it has to be secure and accessible everywhere but we don't want to have to even consider it) to mainly technological ones with a proven solution.

For the right situation the in The Cloud is an excellent option. Just like appliances as discussed in a previous editorial. Proven. Maintainable. Accessible. Secure enough. For the right situation.

  • Thanks for the tractor link. I needed a recommendation.

I think it is interesting technology - the Cloud. I agree that it is not for everything. And I agree that there are some excellent uses for it.
