Reporting Services Remote Connections

  • We have a SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition default instance running Reporting Services at a site in Manchester (10.10.0.194). This is being accessed remotely from a web server in London. Reporting Services has been configured to use port 8086.

The page we are trying to access is; http://10.10.0.194:8086/Reports

There are rules on the firewall in Manchester to allow traffic from the web server in London on ports 8086 and 443 and a rule to block traffic on port 80. When we hit the site we are promted for credentials (which have been verified) but a connection is not made. The Network admin has checked the firewall logs and can confirm that traffic is coming in on port 8086 (initial request?) 443 (i assume credentials being passed over ssl?) but also port 80?

Why is traffic being sent on port 80 when Reporting Services is configured to use 8086? This looks to be the reason why the connection is not made.

Any help would be much appreciated
