Error installing SQL Server 2008 SP1

  • I cannot manage to install SQL Server 2008 SP1. I have successfully installed SQL Server 2008 with tools but now I cannot update the software to Service Pack 1. I have downladed a stand-alone .exe file from Microsoft Download Center but when executing it throws the following message: "SQL Server 2008 Setup requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 to be installed." I have also tried running the update from Windows Update but it throws a "84C007" error message which comes to be the same.

The thing is I do have .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 installed and I also do have .NET Framwork 3.5 with Service Pack 1. I have tried repairing the .NET Framework 2.0 but still same error message and it won't let me reinstall Service Pack 2 as it tells me to do it from the "Activate Windows features" panel, where it doesn't appear as I have .NET Framwork 3.5.1 installed.

I am trying to install the SP1 on Windows 7 (yeah, I know MS says SQL Server 2008 has some compatibility issues but they also say that these should disappear after having istalled the Service Pack 1, and, anyway, other people accross the Internet have managed to install it too). I have also installed Visual Studio 2008 with Service Pack 1 and the computer meets all of the prerequisites and requirements.

I have surfed the Internet thoroughly and read many blogs and forums without success. I have also read many threads and topics in this website but apparently none of them seem to come to a definite solution and most of them are still unresolved.

Please, I need this pretty soon and I hope that you can fix this problem.;-)
