comparing Excel 2007 pivot table to Visual Studio Browser

  • I have a cube that contains some sales data. I am currently looking at this cube in both Excel 2007 Pivot table and the Visual Studio 2005 browser. I dropped the fields sales and a Year over year calculation. I then drop in the YEar-Qtr-Month hiearchy in both views. With no filters applied, the data shows up the same. If I drill down the time table and select just the month of January for 2007 and for 2008 things go a little crazy. In the Visual Studio browser, it shows the correct Year over year calculation, but, on the Excel pivot table, it shows a number that I have no idea where it came from. Below is an example of the data I am looking at:

VS Studio Browser with January filter for 2007 and 2008

2007: Sales: $276, Year over year increase/decrease of -91.98% - I would not expect this value. Prior to selecting just the month of January, the calculation worked fine.

    2008: Sales: 268, YoY -2.90% (what I would expect)

In Excel with the same filter applied it shows the following:

    2007: Sales $276, YoY -91.98%

2008: Sales $268, YoY -92.26% <-this is where I'm confused as why it didn't calculate the year over year increase/decrease compared to the behvaior in VS Studio 2005.

    Any insight is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Marc

  • Forget it. I found what the problem is. It is the multiselect bug or issue when using Excel.
