Error creating project in Sql 2k8 SMS

  • Has anybody had problems creating a new project/solution in SQL 2008 Server Management Studio ? I've had my computer upgraded a few days ago but my server is still running sql 2k5. I'm using the client tools for 2k8, but I'm having problems creating a new project for my scripts.

I just use the menus to create a new project:

File, NewProject, select 'SQL Server Scripts', enter information at bottom of page, click ok.

After clicking ok the project does not appear in the solution explorer window. Status bar at bottom of window says 'Creating project 'MyProjectName.ssmssqlproj'...project creation failed.

What the heck ? Its just an empty project.

My IS dept installed the 28k tools as part of the initial workstation build but I had to install the 2k5 tools after receiving the computer since I still need to use them for certain tasks. I'm starting to wonder if my 28k client tools install is flakey now because of that, and if I cannot find a solution soon I might just re-install the 28k client tools.

Has anybody seen this sort of behaviour or know of a fix ?

    Thanks,

    Bill, Charlotte NC

  • I have the same issue (just discovered it today). There is a connect item out on it, with 5 users indicating they can repro (about to be 6, because I'm about to mark myself as having the same issue). So far there is no indication of a correction or a workaround. In some cases apply SQL Server 2005 SP3 seems to solve the issue.

  • I have the same problem.

I have SQL Server 2005 side by side installations, 64 Bit machines, both 64 bit installations.

  • I have had this problem for some time.

I experienced this when opening an SMSS 2005 project in 2008.

the only way I know how is to reinstall the tools.

Of course I don't have that memorized, so now [again!] I reinstall.

    Best of luck guys!!
