SQL Server 2005 Upgrade - Service pack 2

  • Dear All,

I have SQL SERVER 2005 Entrprise Edition on the Windows Server 2003(operating system).

I need to upgrade the SQL server 2005 to Service pack 2.

Currently I have SQL SERVER 2005 initial version. "9.00.1399.06".

My question is, can I apply the service pack 2 directly? or do I need to apply the service pack 1 first and then apply the service pack 2?

    Many Thanks in advance

    Nauman

  • service packs are cumulative...so everything that was in SP1 is also in SP2, and everything that was in SP1 and SP2 exists in Service pack 3, so you only need to run the latest you wish to install.

  • After applying SQL Server 2005 SP1 to SP2 .....

how to check the current version...

select @@version show the updated version....

  • As Lowell stated, service packs are cumulative. Question though, why not upgrade to service pack 3? It is the current service pack for 2005?

databases all by themselves are independant of service packs.

only system databases(master, model, msdb) are restorable only to teh specific version.

What, exactly, is the error you are getting? I'm sure it's not depednant of service packs, but some other issue.

also, this thread is a bit old, you might want to add a new post instead.
